Great place (and price!) to stay in Saint Charles! The beautiful historic Baker Hotel built in 1928 where legends such as John F. Kennedy have stayed, located on the Fox River in downtown Saint Charles in walking distance to restaurants and bars.
$89 Rooms through March 31, 2014 with limited availability.
The Fox River area is one that is rich in both beauty and history, sitting on the edge of Chicago suburbia next to horse country and farms but blessed with theatre, festivals and lively downtowns.
Down river is also the Herrington Inn in Geneva. http://www.herringtoninn.com/
If those two do not work out and you are looking for inexpensive chain hotels, there are a few of them east of the river on 64. These are along a moderately busy highway not really in walking distance but a short hop in your car. I have listed two below:

Also, deserving a mention is the Pheasant Resort which is a bit farther east along 64. http://www.tripadvisor.com/Hotel_Review-g36648-d88055-Reviews-Pheasant_Run_Resort_and_Convention_Center-Saint_Charles_Illinois.html A lot of conventions are held at this hotel, and reviews are mixed. On the plus side, there is a comedy club and pools on site. Again, not walkable distance to downtown Saint Charles, but a short car ride.
