In my quest to keep my January sanity with little ones, another suggestion is the Tot-Time swim at the Elgin Centre Indoor Pool. Tot-time swim is on Thursdays and Fridays from 10am to 1pm. It is for six months to five year olds and is $3 per child for residents and only $4 per child for non-residents. Adults must accompany their children, but they are not charged. In other words, it was $8 for my four year old to have the ‘best day ever’ in her words. Not bad.
The Centre puts out a box of swim toys. It is a zero depth pool which goes to 3 feet at its height. The slide is closed during tot time, but there is a small ship slide and several water geisers that they can play with.
Directions: From Saint Charles, go north on 31, take a right on Kimball (East) crossing over the river. Turn right onto North Grove Ave, and the Centre is located on your left. Go behind the center and park in the indoor parking on the second floor. You can then take the enclosed walkway straight into the Centre very conveniently not having to expose your little ones to the elements.
